MAIPO CANYON AND GYPSUM RESERVOIR

Located in the Andes Mountains in the Metropolitan Region, the Maipo Canyon was formed by the action of the Maipo River, which has eroded the rock over millions of years. In Maipo Canyon is the town of Saint Joseph from Maipo, which is famous for its hot springs and for being a wine production area.

Reservoir The Gypsum is a dam located in Maipo Canyon. This dam was built in the 1960s and has a storage capacity of about 600 million cubic meters of water. Reservoir El Yeso is used mainly for electricity generation and irrigation in the area. It is a very popular area for outdoor activities, such as cycling and hiking.
